It’s the most wonderful time of the year… unless you are trying to lose fat

I may have “butchered” Andy Williams’ famous song, but I think it is the best way to express the fear of every trainee on the planet these days. Christmas is usually when most of us spend a lot of time with our close relatives away from the comfort of our neighbourhood gym (which could also be closed these days). Does this mean we are doomed to gain some extra weight or lose it when it comes to the gym? Not necessarily. Let’s see exactly how we can accomplish this.

Don’ t stop training

A no-brainer of course. Even without dumbbells or gym equipment you can still do some great workouts at home with your own body weight. If you use a speed rope or some resistance bands, even better. Does this sound like too much? Then just go for an invigorating short walk, which will help you burn some of these unwanted Christmas treat calories.

Party. Just not too much

Now we don’t suggest you should skip Christmas parties altogether, but you should definitely be cautious when you are attending them. Alcohol is the ultimate source for empty calories, calories with no nutritional value. This is why you must drink sparingly. This will not only ensure your jeans will not start being too tight but will also keep you from being a laughingstock at parties! One good idea is to schedule a run or a workout with a friend of yours the morning after your party. This will (almost certainly) keep you from drinking too much while you are there.

Make the proper choices on the Christmas table

What most people will do is fill up their plate with gigantic quantities of meat and then move on to two or three pieces from the dessert. Don’t be on of those people. Start by eating a big portion of the salad. So when it’s time for the dessert, you will feel fine eating just one piece of it. Of course, that also depends on the dessert you are going to be having…

Remove all sorts of chips or treats from home or at least from your line of sight

Almost no one can maintain a perfect diet during holidays. At least, try not to concern yourselves with unwanted junk food products at home.

That’s all for now!
