Cellulitis: How To Get Rid Of It Before Summer

The weather is warming up and with it a change in mood.  We want winter gone and long to wear clothing from our spring collection. Never mind that our thoughts are jumping ahead to summer and what we will wear at the beach!

These thoughts however are often accompanied by thoughts of something else we want to get rid of besides the winter!  We are speaking of cellulite and those extra ponds we put on during the winter.

It is important to mention that cellulite is not only a problem for women but also for some men.  Also, it does not necessarily stem from being overweight.  Even extremely thin women can have this problem.

To make sure we are on the same page, I will explain what exactly cellulite is, and, how we can reduce if not eliminate it.

Cellulite refers to the deposits of fat and water between the skin and the tissue layer directly underneath it with the characteristic outward appearance of orange peel.

This is created by poor local circulation with the result that fat instead of being restructured and burned, it is sent to be stored in certain fat cells. This abnormal accumulation of fat leads some fat cells to enlarge more than others. As a result, vessel compression follows, and the problem of microcirculation is aggravated showing up in the form of cellulite.

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to the appearance of cellulite. The most common are:

  • Sedentary life style
  • Hereditary factors
  • Bad circulation   Hormonal disorders, poor liver function and other endocrinological disorders
  • Being overweight
  • Poor diet
  • Smoking
  • Excess consumption of alcohol, coffee or soft drinks
  • Constipation

Should your problem be due to hormonal disorders, poor liver function or other endocrinological disorders, you should consult a professional to find and treat your problem, the other factors, however, are in our hands to limit, if not eliminate. As it has not been scientifically proven that any one method by itself will bring about results, the treatment should be multifaceted.  The steps are easy:

  • If you are already exercising, great! Keep it up and possibly increase it. Try something new and invest in a personal trainer.  It does not matter what you choose, from weights to yoga, as long as it suits you and you go in a good mood.
  • If your daily routines have gotten the better of you, then, get moving! Walking and swimming are good choices now that the weather is getting better.
  • Follow a better diet with emphasis on fruits and vegetables.  Say no to fatty and fried foods and carbonated drinks.
  • Replace drinks and carbonated drinks with plenty of water and green tea.  If you are really determined consult a dietitian.
  • Use special creams on problem areas.  According to reports from the Mayo Clinic, application of creams with a 0, 03% content of retinol helps fight “orange peel skin”.  Your pharmacist or dermatologist will be able to help you choose the proper cream for you.
  • Get massages whenever you can.The manipulation helps a lot in improving lymphatic flow and circulation of the area, providing significant improvement of cellulite. However, as many of us are often pressed for time, and because, for best results massage should be done regularly, you can purchase a self-medication device such as Tratac® that allows you with foam rolling techniques to actively work your muscle tissues by doing massage and stretching, resulting in muscle relaxation and increased flow of lymphatic fluid and blood in problematic areas.  This way you can have a therapy session everyday at home or supplement the therapy you are doing.

Now you are up to date and you have all the resources to reach your goal and go out on the beach this year as the best version of yourself.Good luck!
