The Ginger Juice You Need To Spice Up Your Breakfast
Often guilty of skipping breakfast (especially when I have to get up early) I find myself making a quick coffee in the kitchen. The thing is though, that throughout a long day, the coffees often pile up to 2 or 3 or even 4.
Yes, caffeine does have its benefits – we will go over this in a different article, but I have recently been looking to switch to a more nutritious “pick me up” in the am!
I have heard – with no scientific backup whatsoever, that an apple will wake you up more than a cup of coffee, and looking for an alternative to your classic morning orange juice, decided to experiment with juicing apples.
Plain apple juice tastes great of course, but looking to pack in to this juice more vitamins and antioxidants I found that the combination of juicing carrots with apples and ginger gives me great kickstart, an awesome nutritional boost and tastes amazing!
Fun facts
Apples
Apples are high in fiber and vitamin C, and low in calories, with no fat or cholesterol.
They also have a high content of polyphenols, which function as antioxidants, making apples one of the healthiest foods a person can eat!
Actually the antioxidant content of apples ranks among the highest for fruits, and research shows that antioxidants help prevent cancer.
The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends eating lots of fruits and vegetables, including apples!
Carrots
Carrots can be traced back about 5,000 years through historical documents and paintings but no one knows exactly when the first carrots appeared, because many people mistook them for parsnips, a close relative of the carrot.
A medium-size carrot has 25 calories and is loaded with beta-carotene, which the body changes into vitamin A. The deeper orange the carrot, the more beta-carotene it contains and with only 6 grams of carbs and 2 grams of fiber it is an excellent addition to any juice (or salad) to fill you up!
Did you know that ironic as it may be, Mel Blanc, the voice of cartoon character Bugs Bunny, reportedly did not like carrots! (read more fun facts about carrots here )
Ginger
Ginger root has been in use since ancient times for its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.
It has 80 calories per 100 g, no cholesterol and holds a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium!
Added benefit? It tastes amazing, giving your juice a spicy kick!
So now that you know how much goodness you will be putting in your glass, lets get down to the recipe!
You will need a juicer for this – many great and economical versions can be found on Amazon, or skroutz.gr. I do highly recommend purchasing a juicer because it gives you so many more options than the traditional blender. Don’t get me wrong here I love smoothies but there are some fruit and veg that just don’t blend well.
Apple- Ginger- Carrot Goodness
For a serving of 2 you will need:
3 medium or 4 small green apples -Figi apples work great too if you don’t like the green ones.
6 medium carrots
Ginger to taste
Instructions
Wash and slice the apples into 4 pieces. You can keep the skin but remove the core.
Wash and peel the carrots removing the top and bottom tip
Cut and clean a piece of ginger root (the bigger the piece the spicier the juice)

Let me know what you think!
